AMS Sending 34 Students to State Math & Science Meet

Posted Date: 04/17/2017

Atlanta Middle School Math & Science teams are sending 34 students to the state meet in San Antonio this coming weekend. The students have competed in Saturday meets since October in an effort to qualify for the event. The science team must study all branches of science, and students are expected to know detailed information while the math team competes in Number Sense, General Math, and Calculator. The students study during the advisory period at school and at home.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this group of students,” said AMS Principal Jay Wylie. “This isn’t like your sporting events, where there’s a crowd cheering you on, and you’re recognized by fans for a job well done. These kids have given up weekend after weekend of their free time to study and compete for very little recognition. It’s just a totally different atmosphere and feeling. I’m excited to see what they’re going to do.”

Students that are competing for AMS are Trey Adams, Maggie Bobbitt, Cassidy Caver, Haylie Chesworth, Brendan Clayton, Clay Fant, Cami Fincher, Brennan Gaston, Kassidy Gennings, Morgan Grider, Charles Gross, Riley Halford, Brooklynn Howard, Presley Humphrey, Kaleigha Jacobs, Sapphire Kerns, Kadence Kesterson, Casey Lambert, Ella Lambeth, Kentrell Luckey, Jairy Medina, Landon Moore, Caitlin Morris, Colin Morris, Briyanna Scott, Jeffery Siler, Lilly Steward, Kinsey Thomas, Mason Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Lilly Ung, Gage Whatley, Sarah Whatley, and Andrew Wommack.

The students are coached by Julie Whatley, Rachel Hogue, and Amanda Bickham.
