New AISD assistant principals ready to begin year

Atlanta Middle School and Atlanta Elementary School will begin the year with new assistant principals.

Jaime Orr, who has been with Atlanta ISD for 10 years, has assumed the assistant principal role at AMS. Orr was a math interventionist at Atlanta Elementary School for the last three years. Prior to that, she taught fifth and sixth grade math. She has a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Texas A&M University - Texarkana and a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University.

“We are very excited to have Ms. Orr as a part of our leadership team at AMS,” Atlanta Middle School Principal Colby Boyce said. “She brings a lot of experience and classroom knowledge that will make our team, climate and culture even stronger.”

Orr has three children: Jacie, 22, who is an elementary PE teacher and high school volleyball, basketball and softball coach; Justin, 19, who is a lineman for Oncor Electric; and Allie, 10, who will be a fifth grader.

“I am so excited to be back at AMS and continue making a difference in the lives of students,” Orr said. “Building relationships with the community, staff and students is very important to me.  Students thrive socially and academically when they feel safe, loved and important.”

The elementary school has welcomed Chad Autrey into his new role. Autrey will be beginning his twelfth year with AISD. Autrey has worked as a third grade math, science and social studies teacher at AES. Prior to teaching, he served as a bus driver for AISD. Autrey has a bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences from Texas A&M University - Texarkana and is working on a master’s degree in educational administration at Texas A&M University - Commerce.

“Mr. Autrey's heart for kids, passion for education, and love for our community make him an incredible asset to Atlanta Elementary School,” Atlanta Elementary School Principal Dena McCord said. “I know he will make an immeasurable impact as our assistant principal, and I am thrilled to serve alongside him."

Autrey is an Atlanta native who graduated from Atlanta High School in 1995. He is married to Angela Autrey, also a teacher in AISD. They have two children: Emma, 20, and Campbell, 14, who will be a freshman at AHS.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to ignite the love of learning for all AES students,” Autrey said. “This year I hope to gain the knowledge and experience needed to be a successful school leader.”
